“Reality is always extraordinary” - Mary Ellen Mark

I’ve always been an observer. An empathetic observer. Watching moments that often go unnoticed and overlooked and feeling deeply to what I see. I have the desire to understand what people experience and how they react to that experience, finding meaning in what might seem ordinary, and the nature of what shapes the experience of being a human. I have complex thoughts about every little thing, and I know that’s what keeps me going as a visual storyteller. My self-expression lies in how individuals live, react, and interpret what the world gives them.
As a child, I was given a small red camera as a gift. I had no knowledge of what a good photograph consisted of, and I was too fearful to point my camera at anything other than the vibrant flowers that spread along the sidewalk. However, I saw more than the flowers. As I grew, I realized that what I see and how I see it can be more than just a memory that is told through words. It can be a visual story that people can see. I create so others can feel.
